Rhetorical structures, strategies, and linguistic features of problem statement to promote a teaching writing model

Studies about rhetorical moves in the introduction section have been widely conducted. However, studies focusing on research problem statement is still limited. This current study investigated structures, strategies, and linguistic features of written by undergraduate students, which aimed to contribute teaching model academic writing. was a qualitative case belonging genre analysis, using Swale’s CARS model. Thirty students’ texts were explored, interviewers further conducted collect data. The results indicated that nine types structures employed, most characterized as incomplete. strategies employed students making centrality claim, topic generalizations, reviewing previous research, indicating gap, establishing need problem, continuing tradition, outlining purposes, announcing state present research. Specific used each move step although admitted they had lack knowledge with features. Based finding, Critical Genre-Based for statements writing proposed because this has facilitative effect consciousness-raising genre’s structure.
